Barón Rojo

Barón Rojo are a Spanish heavy metal band who reached international success in the 1980s. The band is led by siblings Carlos and Armando de Castro, previously from the band Coz, and it is considered one of the most important representatives of Spanish hard rock bands, along with Obús. "Barón Rojo" in spanish is "Red Baron", the name of the band is an homage to Manfred von Richthofen, and the eponymous song "Barón Rojo" is about him.

History

The band released their debut album Larga Vida al Rock and Roll in 1981, and the first single taken from the LP was Con Botas Sucias. It achieved moderate success, earning them several coverage from the media after winning a gold record selling certification. To promote the album, Barón Rojo made a tour around Spain.
They moved to London for the recording of their second album Volumen Brutal on the Kingsway studios, owned by Deep Purple's frontman Ian Gillan. This album was released in two versions: one with the lyrics in Spanish and another sung in English. Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden is credited for helping them with the translation. This led the band to international success specially in England, where they graced the cover of music magazine Kerrang!. The album, which included tracks like Los rockeros van al infierno, Incomunicación and Resistiré (Stand Up in English) sold two million copies in total.
In 27 August 1982 Barón Rojo played at Reading music festival, along with renowned bands as Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister and Marillion.
In 1983 Metalmorfosis, their third Studio album also recorded in London, was released and contained, amongst many other tracks, the well-known ballad Siempre estás allí.
After that, they released their fourth studio album En un lugar de la marcha in 1985 with songs as Hijos de Caín and Cuerdas de acero, as well as two live albums titled Barón al Rojo Vivo (1984) and Siempre Estáis Allí (1986).
From then on, the band began experimenting with new elements including orchestral compositions, as it can be heard on their 1987 album Tierra de Nadie.
By the end of 1989, after they released their album Obstinato, José Luis Campuzano “Sherpa” and Hermes Calabria leave the band, leaving the De Castro brothers with an ever-changing formation where components as Pepe Bao (bass) and Maxi González (vocals) stayed in the band for just one year, and Antonio del Nogal "Ramakhan" (drums) stayed for four years.
Desafío, released in 1992 and recorded in Madrid was produced by guitarist Carlos de Castro with Niko del Hierro on bass and José Antonio del Nogal "Ramakhan" playing drums.
After a two compilation albums, the studio album Arma Secreta (1997) and some legal disputes with record company Zafiro about the royalties of the previous albums, BMG released a double compilation album called Cueste lo que cueste, which included 31 hits by the band plus four new songs.
2001 saw the release of the album 20+, an allusion to the more than twenty years of existence of the band, and in 2003 the cover versions album Perversiones saw the light and featured cover versions from bands as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and AC/DC.
Drummer Vale Rodríguez left the band in 2005, a place José Martos took again for the second time.
By 2006 the band released Ultimasmentes, in which all the songs were sung by Carlos de Castro, except for the instrumental opening and finale.
Ángel Arias and José Martos left Barón Rojo in 2007, just after the live CD and DVD Desde Barón a Bilbao was released, and Tony Ferrer left the band in September, 2008. He was replaced by former Ñu basist Gorka Alegre.
They made a reunion concert on June 20, 2009 at the Metalway music festival in Zaragoza, with the original formation including José Luís Campuzano "Sherpa" doing vocals. That same year they released their last album yet: live album En Clave de Rock.

Lion

Lion were an English-American rock band, best known for their theme song from the 1986 animated movie The Transformers: The Movie.
A hard rock quartet, Lion (originally named Lyon) were formed in Los Angeles in 1983 after ex-Tytan vocalist Kal Swan (born Norman Swan) and former Lone Star guitarist Tony Smith relocated from Great Britain and teamed up with bassist Alex Campbell and drummer Mark Edwards, who had been in Steeler alongside Yngwie Malmsteen, and Third Stage Alert. After beginning work on a demo, Swan and Edwards recruited guitarist Doug Aldrich and bassist Jerry Best (both of whom had previously recorded with the band Mansfield) to complete the Lion line-up, and in 1984 the group made its recorded debut with "Love Is a Lie", a song on the Friday the 13th Part 4 soundtrack. In 1986, Lion returned with Power Love, a six-song EP released only in Japan.
After recording the title for the Transformers animated film, they signed to Scotti Brothers and released their first full-length album, 1987's Dangerous Attraction. Their next record, Trouble in Angel City, was released on the Grand Slamm label in 1989. It contained re-recordings of the Power Love EP songs, a cover of the Slade song "Lock Up Your Daughters", and several new tracks.
In September of that year, Edwards suffered a broken neck after falling off a cliff while competing in a motorcycle race. Lion disbanded a month later, with Swan and Aldrich later teaming up in Bad Moon Rising along with former Hericane Alice members Jackie Ramos and Ian Mayo. Aldrich also recorded with Hurricane, House of Lords, Burning Rain, Dio and Whitesnake. Jerry Best would later re-appear in Freak Of Nature, featuring former White Lion vocalist Mike Tramp; he also briefly toured with Dio in the late 1990s.

Steeler

Steeler was an early 1980s American heavy metal band from Nashville. Band members included: Ron Keel on vocals and guitar, Michael Dunigan on lead guitar, Bobby Eva on drums and Tim Morrison on bass. In 1982, they released the single Cold Day in Hell.
Eva left the band after a short while and was replaced by drummer Mark Edwards. This new line-up did not last long and released no albums or singles.
Soon, Dunigan and Morrison left Steeler and were replaced by Rik Fox on bass and an 18 year old Swedish guitarist, Yngwie Malmsteen. The new line-up released the band's first album, Steeler, it saw moderate commercial success and is now a sought after album for many fans of Malmsteen and Keel.
The final line-up of Steeler saw the departure of Malmsteen, Fox and Edwards who were all replaced by Kurt James on lead guitar, Greg Chaisson on bass and Bobby Marks on drums. This line-up also released no albums or singles. Due to constant change in band members, Steeler never got the major record label it required and Keel decided to split up the band and start a new project.
During Steeler's short time in the world of Heavy Metal, the band became quite popular in LA and even performed to some sold out venues.
In 2005 a compilation album with songs from the single, album, live show bootlegs and unreleased tracks. This album was titled 'Metal Generation: The Steeler Anthology.'

Legacy

Steeler's self titled debut is considered 'groundbreaking'. Much of the themes, style and structure of the music would go on to dominate towards the late 80s. The futuristic guitar work was also incredibly important in bringing Shred guitar to prominence.
Ron Keel later formed his own project, Keel, with moderate commercial success later in the 1980s.
Yngwie Malmsteen was also lead guitarist for the band Alcatrazz, including Graham Bonnett (vocals), Gary Shea (bass), Jan Uvena (drums) and Jimmy Waldo (keyboards). They released one album under this lineup ("No Parole From Rock N' Roll") and a live release, "Live Sentence". Later, Malmsteen began his solo project, Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, which went on to produce numerous albums with a considerably increased commercial success.
Bassist Rik Fox reminisces: "Steeler was one of those 'groundbreaking' bands of the 1980s Sunset Strip. We were lucky and fortunate to be in that particular place in time and history, look at the awesome results that we left behind! But it was the songs that made it happen, and...the FANS! Thanks for keeping the faith." [1]

Sinbreed

Sinbreed is the project around 27 year old Guitarist Flo Laurin who joined forces with dedicated artists of the European metal scene. The blistering combination of speed, melodic and aggressive arrangements combined with high and soaring vocals characterizes Sinbreed's distinctive Power metal, and they now present their debut album "When worlds collide".

The project has been in the making since the late nineties by founder Flo Laurin, and piece by piece everything has fallen in place; from the style of the music, the influences and the band members. Three demo’s were recorded, and the last one was voted “Best newcomer of the month” in Germany’s Heavy Magazine. During spring 2009 a deal was made with Sweden’s Ulterium Records, and the band started to work hard on their debut album.

The members of Sinbreed are Frederik Ehmke [Blind Guardian] on drums, Hebie Langhans [Seventh Avenue] on vocals, Alexander Schulz on bass and Flo Laurin who handles guitars and keys.

For the mixing and mastering of the album the band decided to work together with the highly acclaimed producer Markus Teske, famous for his work with Symphony X, Vanden Plas, Neal Morse among others.

Guests on the album includes Thomas Rettke [Redkey, Ex. Heaven's Gate], Joost van den Broek [Ayreon, Star One] and Morten Sandager [Pretty Maids]. The artwork was created by Felipe Machado Franco [Iced Earth, Ayreon, Pyramaze] and the booklet by Markus Sigfridsson [Darkwater, Harmony].

“When worlds collide” is definitely an album that will be loved by metal fans all around the world. Everything from song-writing, performance, production and artwork is top-class, and this album is only the beginning, watch out for Sinbreed!

After Forever

After Forever was a Dutch symphonic metal band with strong progressive metal influences.[1] The band relied on the use of both soprano vocals and death grunts. In February 2009, it was announced that After Forever had disbanded.

Biography

After Forever was originally assembled in 1995 under the name Apocalypse,[2] playing death metal, with harsh male vocals.[2] With the joining of vocalist Floor Jansen in 1997, their style and sound shifted towards symphonic metal, in order to give emphasis to her soprano voice, in contrast with the grunts and screams provided by Gommans and Mark Jansen. Their line-up at this point comprised Floor Jansen, Mark Jansen, Sander Gommans, Luuk van Gerven, Jack Driessen and Joep Beckers.
In 1999 the band began composing their own songs and recorded two demos entitled Ephemeral and Wings Of Illusion, which drew the attention of the Dutch Transmission Records label, with whom the band signed a contract.
Their debut album Prison Of Desire was recorded in 2000, featuring the guest appearance of Sharon Den Adel of the Dutch band Within Temptation on the song "Beyond Me". The album obtained very good reviews in Europe.[3][4] By the end of the year, drummer André Borgman and keyboardist Lando van Gils joined the band, replacing Joep Beckers and Jack Driessen. During the year 2000, Floor Jansen was invited to guest sing in Ayreon's Universal Migrator Part 1: The Dream Sequencer album. Ayreon is the most successful of the many projects by Dutch guitarist Arjen Anthony Lucassen and this album is only the first of many other collaborations with Floor Jansen.
In 2001, the band released the album Decipher, that featured for the first time live classical instruments and a live choir. The complex arrangements of the new compositions pushed After Forever's music even more towards the symphonic metal genre. In 2002 Mark Jansen, one of the main composers of the band, was fired from After Forever and subsequently assembled the band Epica,[5] where he continued to pursue the contamination of symphonic metal with death metal elements, already present in the first two albums by After Forever. He was replaced by Bas Maas, who had been a roadie for the band for years.[6] In 2003, the new line-up of After Forever released the EP and DVD Exordium.
In 2004, the concept album Invisible Circles was released. The album, that deals with childhood traumas and abuse, introduced progressive metal elements to the music of After Forever and the use of a clean male voice. The album reached 24th place in the Dutch Top 100 musical chart.[7] In the same year, Lando van Gils also left the band and was replaced by Joost van den Broek, a keyboard player that Floor Jansen had met during her tour with Star One .
In early September 2005, the band released their fourth album Remagine. The album was produced using pre-recorded drum tracks by André Borgman, who had to take a long leave of absence to cure his illness. The songs of the album are simpler and more straight-forward than in the previous albums, preserving anyway the usual dual voice dynamic in the sound of the band.[8][9] On March 3, 2006, the band left the Transmission Records label, due to the scarce promotion that the label was providing to their albums.[10] Following this departure, Transmission Records released the Mea Culpa compilation, with plenty of rarities and b-sides. By October of the same year, After Forever had signed to Nuclear Blast Records.[11]
In the end of 2006 the band recorded their final and only album on the Nuclear Blast label, self titled After Forever. It features guest appearances from Annihilator guitarist Jeff Waters and Doro Pesch. Videos of the recording sessions were available for download on the band's website. The album was released on April 23, 2007.
In January 2008, After Forever announced on their website that the band would be taking a break of at least a year, mainly to assess the health problems of vocalist and guitarist Sander Gommans, who had been absent during most of the tour supporting the album After Forever.[10] In an interview with Ragnarök radio, Floor said the band would get together early 2009 to discuss After Forever's future.[12]
On February 5, 2009 , After Forever announced that they decided to call it quits.[13] The long break, during 2008 and 2009, had made them realize that they did not feel the passion towards the band any longer.[14]
After the split up of the band, Sander Gommans published in 2009 the album System Overload with his solo project HDK and continues working as a high school art teacher. Floor Jansen started a new band called ReVamp and signed in 2010 a contract with Nuclear Blast for their first eponymous album.[15] Joost van den Broek collaborated with both Gommans and Jansen on their new musical projects, meanwhile producing the Christmas Metal Symphony shows in 2008 and 2009[16] and Stream of Passion's second album The Flame Within. Guitarist Bas Maas joined the live band supporting German hard rock singer Doro Pesch in 2008.

Zapato 3

Zapato 3 was a Venezuelan Rock Band, (Rock en Español). that was active from 1984 to 1999.
Original Members: Javier Avellaneda (Leading Voice), Fernando Batoni (Bass), Pedro Romero (Guitar), Ernesto Rodríguez (Drums).
Final Members: Carlos Segura (Vocals, Coros, Percussion), Cesar Domínguez (Drums), Jaime Verdaguer (Fender Rhodes), Fernando Batoni (Guitar), Jesús Piñango (Tambourine), Hilda Carmona, Álvaro Segura (Coros), Korg Synthesizer (Keyboards, Guitar), Manuel Barrios (Saxophone), Diego Marquez (Mixing), Mauricio Arcas (Percussion), Juan Bautista López (Coros, Vocals, Guitar).
Zapato 3 was founded in early 1984 by a group of students from Santiago de León de Caracas High School[1], Originally formed by Javier Avellaneda as leading voice and guitars, Fernando Batoni in bass, Pedro Romero in guitars, and Ernesto Rodríguez in the drums. These students got together to form what would be the first generation of the band, later on the years, Ingrid Dreissing entered the band to take over the vocal leading role, Consecutively, Ernesto Rodríguez left the band opening the doors for José Félix Avellaneda to take over the drums responsibility. Some rumors suggested that Rodríguez had left the band due to a conflictive relation with Dreissing, regardless, Dreissing left the band not too long after, opening a gap of vocals inconsistency in the group.
Finally, Javier Avellaneda decided to take over the role of leading voice of the band. As this is considered somewhat a lengthy beginning in the band it is also obvious the different musical approaches and influences in the group itself. It was a good opportunitty to define the genre the would develop themselves into. During the changes of vocal members, it was obvious the punk influence the were under, Eventually, new changes brought Diego Marquez in the drums -whom would later on be substituted by Mauricio Cepeda- at this point they were a more social-oriented- lyrics band. The last significant change in the members of the band before reaching somewhat some members stability was the addition to the group in 1988 of Jorge Ramirez in the guitars later on substituted by Álvaro Segura. Pass this point the group had advertised themselves as a three men band, formed by Fernando Batoni (bass), Javier Avellaneda (voice) and Álvaro Segura (guitars). They decided to function without a steady drummer by using an electronic drum kit. Changes were not over: by late 1988, Javier Avellaneda left the band to have Carlos Segura take over the vocal role and announced the re-incorporation of Diego Márquez in the drums. After this change, it was obvious the band had already lost some of the underground following that had developed in the local scene. Nevertheless this was by far the most stable point of the group in terms of band members.
By 1989, Zapato 3 was on its way of becoming a national musical success. Its style had gone from punk to social-oriented to a much cleaner rock with some sexual lyrics. By then their first album "Amor, Furia y Languidez" (1990) was finally edited which would include tunes that would become some of the most characteristics of the band.
The band became a national recognized group by opening the stage for more rounded groups in several concerts across the country, one of the most remembered was the opening to Soda Stereo in their 1990 Caracas concert.
Their second album "Bésame y Suicídate" (1991) consolidated Zapato 3, giving them some international projection. By 1994 their new release "Separación" brought new changes with Diego Marquez leaving the band, being substituted by Rafael Cadavieco and also the incorporation of Jaime Verdague in keyboards. Not only they changed band members but also style, becoming more of techno group. This consistency kept on till the release of their 1995 album "Cápsula Para Volar" but for the following album "Ecos Punzantes del Ayer" (1999) Rafael Cadavieco left the band to give a chance to César Domínguez in the drums. By 1995 the band had already gone all over Venezuela, have had over five concerts in Mexico and by 1997 had played in cities like Miami with bands like Soda Stereo, La Unión and other Venezuelan bands, such as, Desorden Público, Sentimiento Muerto, La Misma Gente, Seguridad Nacional, Aditus, Radio Clip, and Feedback. In 1999 the group's biography was edited, written by Eugenio Miranda by the title: "Zapato 3: Una Fantastica Historia de Amor y Aventura", some of their CDs can be found in websites such as Ebay, Amazon.com, CD Now, Universe.com, among others. The band's rupture came after their 1999 release of "Ecos Punzantes del Ayer"

Resorte

Resorte is a Mexican nu metal band formed in 1995.

Biography

Tavo, Juan Chávez and Carlos Sánchez formed the group in 1995. The band's birth occurred in sync with the emergence of a musical style called nu metal, which groups such as Rage Against the Machine and KoRn had already been promoting in the U.S. That same year, Resorte made an independent music video for "America" that was the band's first achievement and would become the band's anthem. This video fell into the hands of MTV and began receiving cable play, which enabled the group to be known.
After many concerts, in June 1997, Resorte released República de Ciegos thru Discos Manicomio. These were moments of gestation for the musical movement that came in that spring. There had been a musical explosion in Mexico, and the band's compatriots Molotov released their first album a month later.
Resorte participated in festivals and multiple concerts for thousands of people. In September 1999, the group released their second album XL. Its release represented a new push for the band and it was then when Resorte got its first taste of real fame, receiving radio and television play and reaching the Top 10 on MTV. By then they were opening concerts for internationally known bands such as Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach.
Resorte took a short break in 2001 to work a new material eventually to become Versión 3.0. Carlos "Charal" Sánchezm the band's drummer and co-founder, had already left the band to be with his family. The label Manicomio shut down operations[why?] and Resorte was forced to find another recording label.
Resorte eventually signed with Warner Bros. to release its third album. Rebota (f=k x) was released in 2002, with the addition of a new vocalist, "Pato" Elizalde, a member of the hip-hop group Control Machete. This work represented Resorte's peak in musical quality, with excellent production and sound, having been recorded in two major studios in the U.S. However, "Pato" returned to his previous group Control Machete and sales were not as high as expected. Respect at the national level for Resorte is evident, it headlines all the presentations they perform in.
In May 2006, Resorte performed in the Vive Latino festival and in November in Corona Music Fest.[where?] In late 2007, Tavo participated in the song "Chinga los Racistas" of the Mexican hip-hop group Cartel de Santa and was a special guest on the third album of Argentinian rapcore band Timmy O' Tool.
Cristian Machado, vocalist of Ill Niño, said: "One of my biggest influences are the two Resorte's vocalists, who are like the Mexican Rage Against the Machine".
In 2009, Resorte were chosen as the opening act for Metallica shows in Mexico City at the Foro Sol and for Avenged Sevenfold in the World Magnetic Tour '09.
